Text description provided by the architects. The site is in a corner of a residential area developed along the lakeshore road. The site has a stepped terrain along the lakeside, and from the site, you can see the nearby gardens, the roofs of private houses, and the mountains in the distance. An environment that stretches in each direction, dotted with views of varying distances.

The plan is a two-story house with a cafe on the first floor. The owner plans to use it as a weekend residence for a while. Therefore, we needed a space that could respond to changes without prescribing lifestyles. The owner will have two residences. One is a house that protects everyday life, and the other is an open villa.

A square plan was placed on the site, and the upper floors were divided diagonally. By shifting the floor to increase the parameter with the ground and connecting it with a spiral vertical movement, we realized a three-layer structure that gives various viewpoints for each place. Each floor has the minimum necessary functions, furniture, and plants, making it a "free space" that allows you to freely create spaces.

The retail area on the ground floor and the residential area on the upper floor are only fragmentarily separated by diagonal load-bearing walls. It is a continuous three-dimensional one-room. In addition, to connect with the rich environment outside, it has a double structure that wraps the framework of earthquake-resistant elements with wind resistance and heat insulation and the outer skin of the opening.

Axis

There are no partitions between the spaces, so depending on your body position and movement, you may be able to see the sky or greenery through the windows on the next floor, or your line of sight may suddenly disappear. It is a space where you can feel the richness of the place itself and the generosity of life. To put it in extreme terms, it's just a house assembled using tools such as floors, outer panels, and openings. But it becomes a tool for perceiving the environment as internal.

Bemus Point Restaurant To Be Featured On America's Best Restaurants - Jamestown Post Journal

takanadalagi.blogspot.com

Lake Life Cafe, 22 Main Street in Bemus Point, will be featured in an upcoming episode of America’s Best Restaurants. P-J photo by Sara Holthouse

A newer restaurant in Bemus Point is set to be featured on America’s Best Restaurants.

Lake Life Cafe, owned by Amy and Mark Martis, first opened in May 2021 after the couple realized that Bemus Point lacked a coffee shop.

“We own a house on the lake and we could never find a good cup of coffee locally,” Amy Martis said. “We saw the building was for sale, and we took a gamble and opened up the cafe and coffee shop.”

Located at 22 Main St., Lake Life Cafe is open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the summer season. They are open all year, but hours tend to change depending on the season.

Lake Life Cafe can be reached at 716-386-2200 or on their website lakelifecafe.com.

America’s Best Restaurants travels the country telling the stories and highlighting the unique food of locally owned independent restaurants. Restaurants they have featured in the past in New York State include; 4 Below Haggy’s Bar and Grill in Jamestown, Finnerty’s Tap Room in Ellicottville, Windjammers Bar and Grill in Rochester, Danny’s Buffalo Cuisine in Orchard Park and more. They will be on location filming on June 7 from 9 a.m. to noon.

“America’s Best Restaurants called the restaurant and asked if we would be interested in being filmed,” Martis said. “They were already going to be filming in the area and saw us on Google Reviews. We thought it would be a good experience for the restaurant and Bemus Point community.”

Being featured on the show for Martis means that the risk that she and her husband decided to take by opening the cafe was worth it.

“It means the risk we decided to take has come to fruition,” Martis said. “It means we have become a staple in the Bemus Point community with a great manager and staff. We hope it will let people see a place in the area that they never have, and make it a tourist destination. It’s very honorable.”

Martis does not know much about what is in store for the show’s filming, but guessed crews would film the restaurant and local area, and highlight some of the favorite items on the menu. She also expects to provide background on the local area and the staff.

Martis has high hopes for the episode.

“I hope it showcases our amazing general manager and staff that run the place, and their talents,” Martis said. “Hopefully it will show Bemus Point as a whole and allow people to realize that Bemus Point is growing. There’s a lot to be proud of in this town.”

Martis encourages people to keep an eye out on the restaurant’s Facebook and Instagram pages for the episode along with specials and contests that they will be offering to go along with the feature that will allow people to win items such as gift cards.

Lula Cafe, Dante's And The Brewed Broken Into As Rash Of Logan Square, Avondale Burglaries Continue - Block Club Chicago

takanadalagi.blogspot.com

AVONDALE — At least three more small businesses in the Logan Square and Avondale area have been hit by burglars in a string of break-ins that has business owners on edge.

The Brewed at 2843 N. Milwaukee Ave. was burglarized just before 4:45 a.m. Tuesday, said police and co-owner Nick Mayor.

Someone smashed the glass door of the coffee shop and stole both cash registers, Mayor said. The burglar made off with about $900, he said.

Mayor said their doughnut delivery driver discovered the break-in. It took police about two and a half hours to show up, which Mayor found “very frustrating.” Police didn’t respond to a question about the slow response time.

Still, Mayor said the cafe was able to reopen a few hours later as crews repaired the glass door.

Mayor owns the coffee shop with his wife, Jen Lemasters, and a third partner, Jason Deuchler. Mayor and Lemasters also own the adjoining shop Bric-a-Brac Records & Collectibles.

“Nobody’s hurt, and we’re able to function, so that’s the big picture,” Mayor said.

Neighbors looking to help should “come get some coffee, buy an extra doughnut,” Mayor said.

A police car outside of Dante’s Pizzeria in Logan Square.

Further south, Dante’s Pizzeria at 3028 W. Armitage Ave. was burglarized about 5:40 a.m. Friday, said police and a restaurant employee.

Daniel, a Dante’s worker who declined to provide his last name, said burglars forced their way in by throwing a cinder block through the window, then took the restaurant’s safe.

It’s unclear how much money was stolen. Daniel couldn’t provide a number, and police didn’t provide further information about the break-in.

Lula Cafe at 2537 N. Kedzie Blvd. was also broken into last weekend, said owner Jason Hammel. The popular restaurant opened late Saturday because of the break-in.

Hammel didn’t immediately answer further questions about the robbery, but he said he’s “very thankful that no one was in the building when it happened.”

“I don’t have a lot to say except that I would recommend to owners and managers in the neighborhood to discuss security and safety with staff, keep cash drawers empty and open, maintain as little cash as possible on hand, and to have a clear [standard operating procedure] for after-hours communication,” he said.

Lula Cafe, Dante’s and The Brewed are the latest small businesses in the Logan Square and Avondale area to get broken into.

RELATED: Burglarized Twice In 2 Weeks, El Habanero Owners Ask Logan Square Community For Help

El Habanero at 3300 W. Fullerton Ave. and Casa Yari at 3268 W. Fullerton Ave. were robbed May 24.

It was the second time El Habanero had been hit in less than two weeks, a huge blow to the family business, the owners said.

An online fundraiser launched by the owner’s daughter surpassed its $3,000 goal within days. As of Tuesday, donations totaled more $6,600.

“My mom has worked so hard to establish a sence [sic] of community on that little orange place in Logan Square. She has been in El Habanero day in and day out, working before and after business hours to make sure everything is up to her par,” Larissa Y. Ramirez wrote on the fundraiser page.

“Having experienced two break-in’s [sic] in such a short time has definetely [sic] made a dent on my family’s pocket.”

As word of the break-ins spread, neighboring small business owners are taking steps to protect their shops.

Bakery and cafe Loaf Lounge at 2934 N. Milwaukee Ave. isn’t accepting cash for the time being to keep restaurant employees and customers safe, the owners announced Tuesday on Instagram.

Detectives are investigating the incidents, and any connection between the burglaries was “unknown” as of Tuesday evening, police spokeswoman Michelle Tannehill said.

Philly Favorite Café Opens At Ocean Citys Chatterbox - Patch

takanadalagi.blogspot.com

OCEAN CITY, NJ — Philadelphia breakfast lovers spending summer down the shore will be pleased to know that a local favorite has opened its newest location by the beach.

Green Eggs Café is now open daily at the Chatterbox from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

And Chatterbox lovers need not worry - it's still open, this new brunch is simply an addition.

For those not familiar with Green Eggs Café, this brunch restaurant boasts having high quality food in an eco-friendly atmosphere.

Their products are either bought locally or made in-house, and everything is either recyclable or compostable.

Now, don't think that just because it's eco-conscious that everything is super healthy. You can still find vegan or other healthier options on the menu, but you can also find massive, stuffed French toast options and different styles of eggs benedict.

Those with a sweet tooth will love the carrot cake French toast (a literal slice of cake stuffed between two slices of challah bread, with tons of toppings) or the cookie dough stuffed French toast (exactly what it sounds like!).

More of a savory fan? No problem, try their chicken and waffles benedict, or "the kitchen sink" - a combination of three scrambled eggs with sausage crumbles, gruyere cheese, potatoes, peppers, onions, topped with sausage gravy and jumbo biscuit, served in a cast iron skillet.

Check out the Chatterbox's website for more information.

Norwich: Plans for a cat café submitted to council - BBC

Lady Dinahs Cat Emporium in London's trendy east endAlamy

A former gospel hall could have cats roaming around its premises if plans for a cat café and art gallery are approved.

Olive's Pizzeria in Dereham Road, Norwich, is officially designated as a place of worship.

The designation means it cannot be used for any other purpose unless Norwich City Council approves the change.

A garden centre and car sales shop have previously been run on the site.

Cat cafes began in Taiwan in 1998 before appearing across the globe, with the first one in Britain opening in 2014.

They have increased in popularity and spread to towns and cities across the UK.

A July opening of the cat lounge is planned for the former gospel hall, and it is expected to include a cat life-drawing class and cat yoga, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

A planning statement to the council on behalf of the owner, Sarah Price, said: "Overall, the use of the site as a cat lounge and café is considered to be a suitable change of use of the site, in keeping with the neighbouring properties and previous informal uses of the site."

Lovely Grill opens at former Cajun Café location - KVLY

takanadalagi.blogspot.com

FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) - A new restaurant is now open at the former Cajun Café along South University Drive in Fargo. Lovely Grill is at 1324 25th Avenue South.

They say it’s a family restaurant that combines unique flavors to create an authentic meal.

You can try everything from breakfast, to sandwiches, burgers, wings, and African cuisine for dine in or take-out. The two running the restaurant say they started cooking in their apartment, and mastered many recipes before deciding to serve it up to the public.

The chefs like mixing food and flavors from different cultures to create unique flavors, but say it’s nothing too overwhelming or unfamiliar.

Elderly 'snubbed' by M&S with new digital cafes - The Telegraph

takanadalagi.blogspot.com

Marks & Spencer has been accused of “snubbing” elderly customers by forcing them to use touch screens to order in automated cafes.

The retailer is scrapping the traditional food counter in eight “digital M&S cafes”, including at two megastores.

Staff are focused on making food and drinks rather than taking orders, with customers alerted when their order is ready.

The move has infuriated some elderly customers, who have described it as “abhorrent” and are demanding to be served in person.

Bemused shoppers

M&S, which has strived to become one of the most digital-savvy supermarkets in recent years, has also started trialling self-service belted checkouts alongside manned tills in two food halls.

These are at London Colney, near Watford, and White Rose Shopping Centre near Leeds - two of its largest stores which also have the digital cafes installed, with the possibility they could be rolled out further.

The retailer insists staff are always on hand to assist confused customers and that “as customers are changing the way they want to shop, we’re innovating to make M&S a great place to shop”.

But some shoppers are bemused. The Telegraph was told by one shopper at London Colney there was “a whole queue of elderly people, all needing assistance at the self-service checkouts”, while in the cafe “a cappuccino arrived with chocolate on when we didn’t want this, but couldn’t select it on the touch screen”.

Silver Voices, a membership group for older people in the UK, said it was “pretty disgusted” that M&S was “now going hell for leather for full digital”.

Dennis Reed, its director, told The Telegraph: “It’s off-putting and it’s isolating as far as older people are concerned.

“There will be a reaction to this - in a few years time there will be stores set up saying ‘customer-friendly stores - we serve you with a person rather than a machine’.

“People will flock to those places because a lot of people like human contact. It’s all about profit and reducing staff and snubbing older people.”

M&S ‘must U-turn’

Sarah Gayton, shared space co-ordinator at the National Federation of the Blind of the UK, said:  “It is abhorrent this new system and it’s clear the people making the decisions must have spent their young lives locked to the computer not experiencing what true customer service is.

“They must U-turn on this policy. These machines take the heart and soul out of the shopping experience and customers are unhappy, frustrated and excluded. For the blind and visually impaired, it’s totally alien to them.

“Normally I demand to have a checkout. I insist that someone serves me at the till - I stand my ground and say, ‘look, I want customer service’. Marks and Sparks customers want to have a chat, a catch up, chat about the weather - it could be that person’s only human contact that day.”

She said she was recently at an M&S store in Tamworth, near Birmingham, and saw a woman, aged about 70, “lost and just stood there on her own, forced to use a self-service checkout with a massive shop” as the store was about to close.

Disgruntled M&S shoppers have taken to social media too, with one saying they “insisted that the assistant do it for me or I would leave the shopping” and another saying they “refused to use self-service tills”.

An M&S spokesman said self-service tills were “focussed in our smaller convenience stores” but were being trialled at the larger stores, alongside the digital cafes with an investment in additional staff.

The spokesman said there was always “a colleague on hand to help customers” with a focus on improving customer experience.

Its digital cafes are designed to reduce queues and waiting times and the response from customers to the trial so far has been “positive”, said the spokesman.

11 Spectacular Restaurants, Cafes, and Bars in Beaumont-Wilshire - Eater Portland

takanadalagi.blogspot.com

Sour-spicy-sweet Thai food — loaded with carbs and protein — is hard to beat as a drinking companion, a prospect at the core of Bang Bang’s Thai-ish enterprise. Pair appetizers like the cauliflower and pineapple crunchy salad with an Italian sauvignon blanc, or match a pork belly fried rice bowl with one of the smoky mezcal cocktails. Groups will enjoy splitting plates of skewers, including short rib, prawn, and tofu, and sober folks can sip on tasty shrubs, Thai iced tea, or bottle soft drinks. The interior décor is a tad utilitarian, so opt for the spacious patio seating if the weather allows.

Nashville vegetarian cafe has one of the top-100 burgers in America, report says - WSMV 4

takanadalagi.blogspot.com

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Summertime is almost officially here, and while you might feel the need to get out and grill, there are still so many high-quality burgers to be found at restaurants across the country.

Have you ever felt the need to try a burger that’s ranked among the best in the country? Well, according to a report from Yelp, Nashville is home to one of those special burger spots.

Yelp released its list of the top-100 burgers in America to celebrate National Burger Day which was on Sunday, May 28.

“In celebration of National Burger Day (May 28)—and the official start of burger “search season” on Yelp—we’ve compiled a list of the Top 100 Burger Spots across the US. You’ll find choices for every burger type and taste, from fast-food faves and juicy diner classics to outrageous stack-ups at the latest pop-up joints—and a host of international mashups, too,” the report said.

The state of Tennessee had two representatives in the top 100 with Nashville’s Sunflower Cafe coming in at No. 63 and Pigeon Forge’s Local Goat at No. 57.

So, what is Sunflower Cafe?

“Sunflower Cafe is South Nashville’s premiere Vegan Restaurant with one of the most extensive plant-based menus in the city. You can find everything from Burgers and BBQ to Soups and Salads,” the cafe said.

They’ve got an array of veggie burgers to choose from like their traditional Sunflower style, all American style, “bacon” ranch style and more.

Betty Sue's Better Brew Cafe in Pine Island to close at the end of June - Rochester Post Bulletin

takanadalagi.blogspot.com

PINE ISLAND — BobbiJo Kennedy loves to cook — for her customers, for her family — but right now she needs to take a break. So, on June 29, 2023, Kennedy will close the doors at Betty Sue’s Better Brew Cafe for the final time.

“My husband's ill, so I will be taking care of him right now until he gets better,” Kennedy said. “Then we'll see what happens from there, but he's my number one priority.”

In addition to her husband's illness — Kennedy said he's been diagnosed with esophageal cancer back in January — a variety of factors have pushed her toward this hard decision. For example, after the pandemic, Kennedy found it hard to find employees to staff the cafe. Then, the building owner Kennedy rents from also put the building up for sale recently, contributing to her decision.

The decision was hard considering how much the community seemed to embrace her from the start.

A coffee shop had occupied the space when then-mayor of Pine Island, Rod Steele, approached Kennedy about opening a new one.

Originally from the Twin Cities, Kennedy had always worked in the food industry and agreed to do it. However, she was set on a mom and pops restaurant, not another coffee shop.

“So then we had to do the build out and we put my kitchen in, it was a big thing,” Kennedy said. “It was kind of fun. The community was super excited as we got a new piece of equipment, and they came in and were able to see it, because I've let them back into my kitchen. And yeah, so it was fun.”

Kennedy has a passion for cooking. She began her career in the food industry at the age of 14, when she got her first job as a waitress in Inver Grove Heights. She also always made sure to make a home-cooked meal for her family.

“From the time that I had my children, we always had a sit down meal at home,” Kennedy said. “I always cook. That's just kind of how it's always been. I couldn't imagine not being able to do that, so I want to bring it here. For families that are not at home and can't do it and want to do it here.”

Kennedy will miss a lot of things about the restaurant, but her customers are what she will miss the most. The community welcomed Kennedy and her restaurant with open arms, and she has regulars who come in every day.

“We consider them family,” Kennedy said. “They've watched my three daughters who have all worked here with my husband and I. They've watched my kids grow up.”

All of her daughters have worked in the restaurant and there are fond memories associated with it. Her middle daughter’s painting of the restaurant for a school project hangs on display on the wall. Kennedy’s youngest daughter who works in Kasson still continues to help out in the restaurant.

“June will be hard for me because I'll start taking things down and start putting things away,” Kennedy said. “It'll be very devastating.”

The community has continued to show Kennedy and her family support during this tough time. Her husband's co-workers from the Twin Cities put on a benefit for him in Pine Island and around 400 people came to support Kennedy and her family.

“Pretty much the whole community and all of his employees up there (attended),” Kennedy said. “It was very overwhelming. It was a very long day. I’m very appreciative. They embraced us like we're family. I mean, the same thing with COVID too. This community is wonderful.”

Betty Sue’s Better Brew Cafe will continue operations with its regular hours through June 29.

“I will miss each and every person that has been through my doors,” Kennedy said. “I do look at them as family. So it will be very, very hard to say goodbye to all of them.”

Chaos in Tel Aviv cafe as woman's screams at cockroach spark fears of terror attack - The Times of Israel

takanadalagi.blogspot.com

A woman’s terrified screams at a cafe in Tel Aviv sparked widespread panic on Saturday evening as patrons at the venue and in an adjacent eatery started fleeing, overturning tables and chairs, for fear of a suspected terror attack.

Two people were lightly injured by broken glass in their attempt to bolt for the exits, and police units rushed to the scene at Dizengoff Cafe to begin a sweep for suspects.

But amid the chaos, they determined that the woman’s panicked screaming was in response to the sight of a cockroach, a common pest and general nuisance in the coastal city and across Israel.

The Walla news site reported Saturday that in her panicked screaming, the woman had overturned the table she was sitting at, causing a commotion and setting off the fears of an attack.

“It was the scariest thing that ever happened to me,” said an eyewitness at the eatery on the central Dizengoff Street.

The witness told Channel 12 news that patrons at the restaurant suddenly heard screaming from the bar, and “people overturned tables and everyone around started screaming and running and trampling each other. A lot of glasses shattered on the way, and people fell on the glass and got cut.”

“I don’t blame the girl who screamed because of a cockroach. In a normal country, it passes with humor,” said the witness, who is eight months pregnant and had to go straight to an emergency clinic to check that her pregnancy was unharmed, according to Channel 12.

Israelis are on heightened alert following a spate of Palestinian terror attacks this year in Israel and in the West Bank, which have so far killed 19 people and left several more seriously hurt.

Tel Aviv has been the site of several of these attacks, including a deadly shooting in March in which a terrorist opened fire outside a cafe on the corner of Dizengoff and Ben Gurion streets, wounding three people, one of whom died of his critical wounds days later. Last April, a terrorist opened fire at patrons at the Ilka bar on Dizengoff Street in Tel Aviv, killing three people.

“This should be a lesson for people, to be restrained and understand what is happening around them before they start screaming in the street,” said the witness.

Another person on the scene Saturday also described the chaos: “People were frightened by the screams and started running in all directions, turning tables.”

“I saw a man with blood on his face, he was in shock. Two young girls were sitting in the cafe with blood on their feet. Terrible,” the witness went on, noting that they saw at least five police vehicles, an ambulance and paramedics on scooters rush to the scene.

Israel is home to the common cockroach, but also has the large, flying species, all known to spark a deep fight-or-flight response in people.

Fear of cockroaches is called katsaridaphobia.
