Houston offensive lineman Joshua Jones knows Bills defensive lineman Ed Oliver well as Oliver came out of Houston in the 2019 draft. Jones said he was the best offensive lineman and Oliver was the best defensive lineman, so they used each other to get better.

"When he first came into UH, I'm just thinking he's just another guy," Jones said. "He has to put on his pants the same way we do, but then it was the second day of pads and he slid up at nose with the second team running with the twos, dude sits there and lifts up our center, tosses him out of the way and hits the running back in the backfield. The running back's helmet pops off, the ball flies in the air, I'm like alright he can go. He's a good player. After that he saw me rising as the best offensive linemen so we just went at it every day—Oklahoma drill, one-on-ones, just to get as many reps as we could against each other."

Jones explained any time a player went up against Oliver in practice they had to be on their A-game. The two currently have the same agent and Oliver has been in touch with Jones giving him advice about going through the draft process.
