Kinship, a combination butcher shop, marketplace, and cafe, opens this fall in the VA-HI building in the Virginia-Highland neighborhood. According to the press release, Kinship will also feature a cheese and wine shop and to-go meal boxes.
Co-owners Myles Moody and Rachael Pack plan to source meats, produce, and other products for Kinship as locally as possible, including dealing directly with local farmers and food producers.
“The marketplace will be comprised of a number of ‘sections’ – a butcher, a cheese counter, a kitchen space to serve a small take-away menu, a coffee shop, a grocery store, and a wine store – all working within a singular mission,” a representative tells Eater Atlanta. “The feeling and aesthetic of the space will be akin to a living room or coffee shop rather than a grocery store.”
Refrigerated cases will display daily meats and cheeses for sale, while the kitchen will offer fresh stocks and broths, along with breakfast and lunch sandwiches throughout the day.

Moody has worked previously for Atlanta chef Linton Hopkins at both Holeman & Finch Public House and Restaurant Eugene (which closed last summer,) and trained in the kitchens of restaurants like Eleven Madison Park, Atera, and Aska in New York City. Pack previously worked as a food writer and recipe editor for online travel and culture site New Worlder, before working as a sommelier for the Beatrice Inn and as the beverage manager and later general manager for Aska.
The butchery and sundries shop joins Paolo’s Gelato and forthcoming pizzeria Pizza by the Slice in the circa-1910 building at the corner of Virginia and North Highland avenues. The latter is a Sicilian-style pizza joint owned by O4W Pizza proprietor Anthony Spina. Pizza by the Slice should also open later this fall.
