Dawn Dickson, a serial entrepreneur and inventor with several new ventures, recently opened a plant based restaurant, the Lifestyle Cafe in Columbus, Ohio. The cafe offers vegan, gluten-free, non-GMO, and locally sourced dishes, as well as homemade blends of beetroot, turmeric or chocolate and a range of local teas.
Dawn is one of the few black women in the technological sphere with her company PopCom and recently ventured into cuisine with the Lifestyle Cafe. Dawn has been featured on the cover of Black Enterprise as well as in Forbes, Essence, Fast Company, The Huffington Post and recently appeared on The Breakfast Club to discuss black women in tech and food.
“I have been plant based since 2007 and it has always been challenging to find the type of vegan food that I wanted in my hometown of Columbus Ohio”, shared Dawn. “My friend since 4th grade Shanna Dean completed culinary school and has a knack for vegan dishes so she always would cook for me. When our neighborhood vegan restaurant closed and the space went up for sale I knew it was an opportunity to bring the amazing plant based cuisine that Shanna prepares to the community. We brought together a group of friends to invest and the Lifestyle cafe was born. We have received so much support from the community because we serve dishes that were missing from the local scene.”
The Lifestyle Cafe is currently open for dine in and patio seating with delivery available.
