Crust & Crumb Artisan Cafe To Open On Beaver Ave. In August - Onward State

It looks like downtown State College is going to get a little bit sweeter this summer.

A new artisan bakery, Crust & Crumb Cafe, is set to open in State College this August, according to a post on the restaurant’s Facebook page. Although a specified opening date hasn’t been provided, it said it won’t be open “late” or on Sundays. The franchise said it’ll provide updates in the coming days.

Crust & Crumb will move into 115 E. Beaver Ave., which formerly housed Nosh Cafe & Grill. Nosh, which served everything from flatbreads to soups to mac ‘n’ cheese, opened in spring 2019 but closed before the year ended. A sign in Nosh’s former window indicated a vegan cafe would take its place, but those plans appear to have changed.

Crust & Crumb hasn’t released an official menu yet. However, after perusing through its Facebook posts, it’s safe to say it’ll serve everything from “signature coffees” to sandwiches to pastries.

Additionally, applications are open to join Crust & Crumb’s staff. The cafe is currently accepting applications for “enthusiastic baristas, pastry cooks, and line cooks.” To apply, head over to its website.

Crust & Crumb was founded by Penn State alum Amber Winkler, who graduated from the university’s College of Engineering and holds a culinary degree from the American Academy of Culinary Arts. She worked in the private sector for 15 years before turning her attention toward the culinary arts.

“Our focus at Crust & Crumb is to bring back artisanal ways by making small-batch, scratch-made pastries and goods, both classic in nature and sometimes quirky, served alongside an equally great cup of coffee,” Winkler said. “At this little cafe, we put a lot of heart into what we do.”
