When she opened her business, Emily Horta set out to make desserts that anyone could enjoy.
The menu at Emy Delights & Bites features assorted chocolates, fudge cups and other treats, but with vegan recipes that do not include the most common allergens.
"I wanted to promote food allergy awareness while making food that everyone can enjoy," Horta said.
After selling these snacks for more than a year through her online store, Horta will bring her concept to Dutchess County.

Emy Delights & Bites aims to open a café in the Town of Hyde Park later this month, offering sweets and lighter fare from 4322 Albany Post Road.
All of the café's food is vegan, and it does not contain common allergens, including soy, wheat, gluten, dairy, eggs, tree nuts, peanuts, sesame or mustard.
"We wanted to serve things that are good enough that you don't realize it's vegan or allergen-free," Horta said.
Horta said she always wanted to open a physical location for her concept, as she felt there is a lack of vegan and allergen-free options in the region.
"There are cafés and restaurants with vegan and allergy-free options, but not really any that do that exclusively," she said.
The café will primarily focus on grab-and-go service, but the business will have limited seating indoors and outside. Because of this, Horta said she isn't overly concerned about opening a restaurant amid the coronavirus pandemic.
"Because the food needs to be prepared in an allergen-free environment, we're already focused on cleanliness," she said.
