GRAND BLANC TWP, MI -- A new edible cookie dough cafe and bakery has opened in Genesee County.
We’reDough at 5349 Fenton Road, opened Saturday June 27. Hours are from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
The business specializes in edible cookie dough made with heat-treated flour and pasteurized eggs. The bakery also offers multiple unique and classic cookie flavors, pastries and natural breads, as well as hand-dipped ice cream.
The dough scoops like ice cream, too, so whether you’re feeling a cold treat or some gooey dough, you can get it served in a cone.
Owner Jessica McGuire was born and raised in the Flint area. She is a Carman-Ainsworth and Kettering University alum.
“I have baked as a hobby since I was little with my grandma and my mom, but it was stumbling upon the deliciousness of edible cookie dough that really got my dream of owning a bakery going,” McGuire said.
The nearest edible cookie dough cafe is in Rochester or Grand Rapids, so McGuire was inspired to open her own cookie dough eatery close to Flint.
After finding a location, plans to open in December were postponed due to needed renovations to the building. We’reDough was ready for inspection in March, but when the COVID-19 pandemic, the opening was once again on hold, McGuire said.
“It has definitely been a journey getting here,” she said.
In its first week since opening, McGuire said she’s seen a tremendous amount of community support.
“Flint is a great town,” she said. “People don’t give it enough credit, they just look at the surface but Flint’s definitely on the way up.”
As business continues, McGuire said she would like to find somewhere to donate extra food as she looks for ways to limit food waste. She is already using eco-friendly packaging made from recycled plastic bottles.
