After six years in business, Shorty's Corner Cafe will close its doors on Sunday, Aug. 16.
The announcement from owners Dennis, Lori, Lee and John Schermerhorn appeared on the cafe's Facebook page on Sunday, Aug. 2.
"This was a very difficult decision for our family to make," the announcement read. "... We just can't come up with a sensible way to move forward."
The Schermerhorns indicated that their decision was based on the combination of being forced to shut down for several weeks this spring, and the cancellation of most summer activities in the community, both due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Until Aug. 16, the restaurant at the corner of Washington Avenue and Willow Street will continue to operate during its regular hours: 6 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday-Friday, and 7 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday-Sunday. Shorty's is closed on Mondays.
