WOODFORDS, Calif. — New owners are slated to take over a popular market and cafe for locals and visitors alike.

Carson Valley residents Kim and McKinna Jackson will take control of Mad Dog Cafe and Market, located off Highway 88 in Woodfords, to start the new year.

Originally established by Woodfords businesswoman Jennifer Quillici in 2017, the market provided a unique eating and shopping experience.

“When I started, I wanted to create a destination for people to stop at when they visit Alpine County,” Quillici said in a press release. “I wanted this to be a place to go for a good meal and for specialty items they can’t find just anywhere. Customer service has been our top priority since day one.”

Quillici said she knows that the Jacksons will continue to put the customer first and provide a welcoming atmosphere for visitors. While the Jacksons have not officially taken ownership, they are currently working daily with Quillici to learn the details of the business. The market will reopen under their new ownership on Jan. 2.

The Jackson are locals to the Carson Valley and Alpine County. Kim was born and raised between Lake Tahoe and Gardnerville, and lived in Markleeville for 12 years. She is actively involved as a captain with the Alpine County Volunteer Fire Department.

McKinna, Kim’s daughter, was also born and raised in the Carson Valley and is involved in local equestrian activities, including the roping club and flag team for the Reno Rodeo.

“We are family and community oriented,” Kim said, “and we look forward to providing services that help our community succeed.”

Mad Dog Café and Market is located at 290 Old Pony Express Way. In addition to specialty sandwiches, baked goods and gourmet gifts, the market is a California Lottery retailer.

Currently, the market is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days per week, for outside dining and takeout. These hours will change to 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Jan. 2. For more information, call 530-694-2930.
