CLOSINGS BY COUNTY and ACROSS THE BAY
HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY
- Tampa International Airport will suspend all operations beginning at 3 p.m. today due to Hurricane Eta, which continues to threaten the Tampa Bay region with strong winds.
All passengers should check with their airlines for flight status updates. The Airport, including the Main Terminal and parking garages, will be closed to all visitors at that time. TPA is not a designated storm shelter.
All operations are expected to resume Thursday by noon, but could reopen earlier if the airfield and terminal areas are deemed fit.
- Due to the severe weather impacting the Tampa Bay area, ZooTampa will close at noon today and will remain closed tomorrow, Thursday, November 12, 2020.
PINELLAS COUNTY
In an abundance of caution, ALL Pinellas County Schools will have early dismissal today, Wednesday, Nov. 11 and will be closed tomorrow, Nov. 12. Today’s dismissal times: High Schools: 10:00 a.m. Elementary Schools: 11:00 a.m. Middle Schools: 12 noon
PASCO COUNTY
Due to the potential for high winds from Hurricane Eta this afternoon, students and staff will be released early today (Wednesday). All after-school events and activities are canceled. Schools that normally release during the 2 o’clock hour (most high schools) will release at 11 a.m.
Schools that normally release during the 3 o’clock hour (most middle schools) will release at noon. Schools that normally release at the 4 o’clock hour (most elementary schools) will release at 1 p.m. All district staff will be released by 2 p.m.
School is canceled on Thursday and all district offices are closed. PLACE and STAR Academy will also be closed on Thursday. All events and activities are canceled. At this time, we expect school to be in session on Friday. The district will continue to provide updates via social media, SchoolMessenger, and the district websiteY
HERNANDO COUNTY
From Hernando County Schools: We are currently monitoring tropical storm ETA. While the storm’s path does not appear to be a direct threat to Hernando County, high winds and potential flooding are likely for our area therefore all district and school sites will be closed Thursday, Nov. 12th. All activities scheduled for tonight and tomorrow night are also cancelled.
CITRUS COUNTY
Citrus County Schools will be closed Thursday, November 12, 2020. All students will transition to remote learning Thursday, November 12, 2020. We will be implementing our distance learning plan. Our students will be using Canvas to complete their schoolwork. You may be receiving an additional call today from your child's school or teacher with specific instructions.
MANATEE COUNTY
The Sarasota-Bradenton Airport will suspend operations at 4 p.m. Wednesday. Here is a link to their website to check your flight.
ACROSS THE BAY
Due to Hurricane Eta, the following physical campus locations of Keiser University will be closed Thursday, November 12, 2020: Sarasota, Clearwater, Tampa, New Port Richey, Lakeland, Orlando, Daytona Beach, and Jacksonville. Employees are to work remotely, and students scheduled to be on campus on Thursday, November 12, 2020 will have classes virtually. Online classes remain as normally scheduled. Updates will also be posted on our website and the toll-free hotline 877-353-4737.
Barry University’s campus in Tampa will operate remotely only Thursday, and until further notice, because of Tropical Storm Era, school officials said. Students in clinical rotations in the area should check with their sites regarding potential closures or cancellations. Any students uncomfortable attending, or unable to attend, clinical rotations due to the storm will not be penalized, university officials said.
