Magnolia Social Café owner to open new restaurant in Riverlights - Greater Wilmington Business Journal

takanadalagi.blogspot.com
Tammy Tilghman, owner of Magnolia Social Café in the Marina Village at Riverlights, plans to open a second restaurant, Girls With Dough, also in Marina Village, just across the courtyard from the cafe.

Tilghman is working with chef Juan Vargas on a concept that will feature small plates, pastas, pizza and items from the grill, with the aim of providing a little something for everyone.

Tilghman said that shortly after she opened Magnolia Social Café in 2017, she began thinking about what else the community needed.

“We were the second restaurant to open here after Smoke on the Water and we’ve really grown along with the community,” Tilghman said. “And when I think about what would benefit the community as it continues to grow, I feel like this is a great concept for the area. After all, pizza is one of those things you can eat all the time and never get tired of it.”

While the restaurant will focus heavily on homemade Neapolitan pizzas, Tilghman and Vargas aim to put their own spin on things and utilize fresh, seasonal ingredients.

The 3,200-square-foot space will feature a private party room that overlooks the Marina Village courtyard, a main dining room and a lounge area, as well as a fully separate space to pick up carryout orders. Guests will also have full access to the outdoor seating within the courtyard that can be utilized by all guests of Riverlights.

Following several delays with permitting, the building is now under construction and Tilghman hopes to open in December.

She anticipates the restaurant will open for dinner during the week and lunch and dinner on the weekends to start, followed by a weekend brunch service and lunch during the week.

As for Magnolia Social Café, like most independently owned local restaurants, it has had its share of struggles since the onset of COVID-19. In fact, just prior to the pandemic, the cafe had to be closed for several months at the end of last year because of a leak that required extensive repairs.

But overall Tilghman said her customers have been extremely supportive and the café is now in a good place. She is fully staffed and ready to get business back to pre-COVID levels.

The cafe is currently open Tuesday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and weekends from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Tilghman emphasized that the café will always stay open later if they are busy. This weekend and next the café will be open until 5:00 p.m. for the RiverLights Parade of Homes and they will be fully stocked with many of their bestselling homemade desserts.

Magnolia Social Café is located at 109 Pier Master Point in RiverLights, Girls With Dough will be located at 204 Arcadian Row.
