Do you still have an NBA Draft hangover? Too bad – take a cold shower, chug some coffee, and get ready for free agency!
While this 2020 free agent class may not be stuffed with the most eye-popping talent, there are still plenty of interesting players that could be on the move. Not to mention, a handful of teams who are fighting to take a competitive leap. The Chicago Bulls are one of those teams hoping to be back in the playoffs mix sometime soon. However, unless it’s via a couple of crazy trades, it’s unlikely we see much roster movement over the course of this free-agent period.
The Bulls enter Friday’s 5:00 p.m. CT start with little cap space. New front office leaders Arturas Karnisovas and Marc Eversley will have only the mid-level exception ($9.2 million) and biannual exception ($3.6 million) at their disposal. The team is also on the brink of 14 guaranteed roster spots thanks to drafting Patrick Williams and extending a qualifying offer to Denzel Valentine.
With that in mind, Karnisovas made it clear in his post-draft interview that the Bulls would have to approach free agency as rather picky.
The Bulls Will be “Very Picky” When Free Agency Finally Opens Tonighthttps://t.co/IiddylJ0iX

You never know what craziness can ensure in the NBA, though (especially with a new front office in the mix!).
We’ll keep you updated on everything that happening around the league in this post, so keep checking back here for more info!
• Update (5:04): Goran Dragic was the first to announce he will return to the Miami Heat next season. The 34-year-old had a bounceback season with the Heat in 2019-20, and he played a major role in their run to the NBA Finals. According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, he earned himself a two-year, $37.4 million deal. THAT. MAN. GOT. PAID.

— Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) November 20, 2020

Dwyane Bacon has agreed to a two-year deal with the Orlando Magic, according to sources
— Vincent Goodwill (@VinceGoodwill) November 20, 2020
• UPDATE (5:45): Pistons sign a veteran center. Why? Good question. Considering they are the favorites to retain breakout big man Christian Wood, and already have Blake Griffin on the roster, this feels like a high price to pay for a likely backup. The excitement doesn’t stop here during the 2020 NBA free agency!
Free agent center Mason Plumlee has agreed to a three-year, $25M deal with the Detroit Pistons, his agent Mark Bartelstein of @PrioritySports tells ESPN.

— Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) November 21, 2020
• HEYOOO! Our first max contract extension of free agency! De’Aaron Fox is easily one of the league’s brightest young stars, and it makes all the sense in the world for the Kings to commit long-term to the point guard. Part of me wished that someday soon the Bulls could snag Fox and have the fasted backcourt in the country with Coby White by his side. Time to put that dream on hold.
Sacramento Kings young star De'Aaron Fox has agreed to a five-year, $163M maximum extension, with clause to reach the $195.6M super max, sources tell @TheAthleticNBA @Stadium.
Deal negotiated by his agent @chrisgaston_ of @FamFirstSports.
— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) November 21, 2020
• UPDATE (6:26): Big money for the 28-year-old bucket-getter. Honestly, I’m surprised the Jazz gave him this big of a bag, but I guess they strongly believe in his sixth-man potential moving forward.

— Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) November 21, 2020

— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) November 21, 2020
• UPDATE (7:19): Josh Jackson has struggled to land on his feet ever since being drafted No. 4-overall by the Phoenix Suns in the 2017 draft. He spent the bulk of last season playing in the G-League as a member of the Memphis Grizzlies organizations. Now, it looks like he’ll be back in the NBA full-time as he finalizes a deal with the Pistons.
Free agent F Josh Jackson is finalizing a deal with the Detroit Pistons, sources tell ESPN.

Free agent Alec Burks has agreed to a one-year, $6M deal with the New York Knicks, agent Alex Saratsis tells @ZachLowe_NBA and me.
— Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) November 21, 2020
• David Bertans – one of the top-ranked free agents – stays with the Washington Wizards and grabs a major paycheck. Several teams were said to be interested in Bertans this offseason, but I think it’s safe to say the Wiz threw by far the best offer on the table.
Free agent forward Davis Bertans has agreed to a 5-year, $80M deal to return to the Washington Wizards, his agent @ArtursKalnitis tells ESPN. Deal includes an ETO after fourth year. One of biggest deals ever for a European-based agent in NBA.
— Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) November 21, 2020
• Joe Harris was another popular name in the market thanks to his elite perimeter shooting. Many thought he would be headed elsewhere, especially with the recent acquisition of Landy Shamet, but the Nets show they’re committed to him with a four-year deal.
Free agent guard Joe Harris has agreed to a four-year, $75M deal to return to the Brooklyn Nets, his agent Mark Bartelstein @PrioritySports tells ESPN.
— Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) November 21, 2020

Deal negotiated by agent Mike Kneisley.
— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) November 21, 2020

Free agent Montrezl Harrell has agreed to a two-year deal with the Los Angeles Lakers, agent Rich Paul of @KlutchSports tells ESPN.
— Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) November 21, 2020
• Former-Bulls target signs with Portland. But with the drafting of Patrick Williams, he probably fell off the Bulls radar. Good get for the Blazers.
Derrick Jones Jr. lands a two-year deal with Portland after establishing himself as a high-level rotation forward in Miami. https://t.co/WbRyowvOtw
— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) November 21, 2020
• Great deal for a rising star.
Free agent F Christian Wood has agreed to a three-year, $41M deal with the Houston Rockets, sources tell ESPN.
— Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) November 21, 2020
• UPDATE 11/21 (11:42): I went to bed, which is never a good idea when it’s the first night of free agency. Plenty of more deals got done over the course of this morning, so let’s get caught up. First things first, the Denver Nuggets lost Jerami Grant to the Detroit Pistons (despite reportedly offering him the same amount of money), and they decided to fill that void with former Clippers forward JaMychal Green. Solid replacement.
Free agent JaMychal Green has agreed to a two-year, $15M deal with the Denver Nuggets, with player option in second season, sources tell @TheAthleticNBA @Stadium.
— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) November 21, 2020
• Denzel Valentine officially accepted his qualifying offer from the Bulls. We talked more about that here. I kind of thought they might rescind the offer after signing Garrett Temple on Friday night but looks like Karnisovas is committed to giving the fourth-year player a chance.
Free agent Denzel Valentine has signed a one-year, $4.7M (qualifying offer) deal with the Bulls, sources tell @TheAthleticNBA @Stadium.
— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) November 21, 2020
• Michael Carter-Williams resigns with the Magic. Remember when he was on the Bulls? Yeah … fun times (*he types with sarcasm oozing from his fingers*).
Free agent Michael Carter-Williams has agreed to a deal to return to the Orlando Magic, sources tell @TheAthleticNBA @Stadium.
— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) November 21, 2020
• Lowkey really liked Mo Harkless as a possible Bulls addition this offseason, but the drafting of Patrick Williams made it pretty clear they wouldn’t add at that forward position in free agency. Good add for the defending Eastern Conference champions.
Free agent F Moe Harkless has agreed to a one-year, $3.6M deal with the Miami Heat, sources tell ESPN.
— Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) November 21, 2020
• I waited to share any news on this trade last night because it got confusing as hell. I’m still not sure if it’s exactly set in stone, but the big takeaway is that the Pelicans are adding Steven Adams. With Bledsoe and Adams in New Orleans, they are looking better and better.
As part of the trade, guard Eric Bledsoe is staying with the Pelicans, sources tell ESPN. https://t.co/8zAmO5VOeW
— Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) November 21, 2020
• Kris Dunn signed with another young, up-and-coming squad. All things considered, he is the player the Hawks needed and the one the Bulls didn’t.

— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) November 21, 2020
• The Milwaukee Bucks are adding the former Bulls big man. Could be a solid fit alongside Giannis thanks to his overall versatility.
Bobby Portis is joining Milwaukee on a two-year deal, with a player option in the second season, sources said. Bucks receive a major frontcourt addition, and Portis has opportunity to play key role on a title contender. https://t.co/fr5SKO501u
— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) November 21, 2020
• The Bucks also grab another former-Bulls in D.J. Augustin. He is a strong veteran add who provides more quality shooting. I kind of hoped there could be a reunion in-store with the Bulls this offseason, but Augustin was probably looking for a longer commitment than the Bulls wanted to offer.
Free agent guard DJ Augustin has agreed to a three-year, $21M deal with Milwaukee, sources tell @TheAthleticNBA @Stadium.
— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) November 21, 2020
• The top unrestricted free agent is off the board. Fred VanVleet (Illinois native!) got himself a big-time contract with his former team. There was a lot of buzz the NBA champion could head to New York or even Detroit, but Toronto certainly feels like the best choice.
Fred VanVleet has agreed to a four-year, $85M deal to re-sign with the Toronto Raptors, agent Brian Jungreis of @ParLay_SE told @TheAthleticNBA @Stadium.
