New sandwich café and market opening in Kensington Tuesday

DeliClub, a market and café serving gourmet sandwiches, is scheduled to open Tuesday in Kensington, according to the website.

DeliClub is owned by Soledad Ivaldi, who immigrated to the Unites States from Argentina in 2002, according to the café’s website. Ivaldi’s family started a DeliClub in Martinez, Argentina, in 2010, near Buenos Aires.

In 2017, she started offering menu items at the Kensington Farmers Market, the website stated.

The Kensington café will offer sandwiches for $7 to $10, including tuna salad, curry chicken salad, veggie and smoked salmon, according to the website. Sandwiches are served on a variety of breads, which include baguettes, ciabatta and bagels.

DeliClub’s menu also features salads for $8 to $10, and a soup special for $5.

 The café is at 3705 Howard Ave., near the Kensington MARC station.

Halal burger food truck operating in Rockville

Slider Rider, a food truck serving burgers with Halal beef patties, started serving customers this month at a spot just off of Shady Grove Road in Rockville.

The truck’s burgers feature toppings such as mushrooms, lettuce, relish, caramelized onion and cheese. Burgers are $6 to $8, and customers can also substitute Beyond Meat for the Halal beef.

Slider Rider also serves chicken wings for $6.50 and fries seasoned with pepper and parmesan cheese for $4.

Slider Rider typically operates at 16185 Shady Grove Road, next to Touchless Car Wash. A weekly schedule is posted on the truck’s Facebook Page.

Karen’s Seafood approved to serve alcohol

Karen’s Seafood in Silver Spring can now stock its backlit bar with a range of alcohol choices. The restaurant, which opened in September, was recently approved for an alcohol license.

The restaurant will offer a full selection of drinks, along with the Louisiana-style seafood it has served since September.

According to owner Paul Tuen, the restaurant’s specialty dish is crabcakes. “We use top-quality seafood,” he said.

Though crabcakes are the star dish, the walls are decorated with larger-than-life images of lobsters. The restaurant’s funky decor fits into its family atmosphere. 

It is a true family business, Tuen said. Six people in his family members work there.

He is currently unable to hire any additional staff because of the economic challenges of opening a business during a pandemic. The process of negotiating the lease took about five months and construction was delayed by the pandemic.

Because it can’t serve as many people indoors, Karen’s Seafood offers delivery, too. It is at 13843 Outlet Drive in the Fairland area.
