If you love going to Rice’s Fruit Farm during the school year, then check out Common Grounds Cafe located in Wilbraham, Mass. Springfield College senior Hayley Procon and her mother Kristen took over Common Grounds Cafe just last Tuesday. Procon knew she couldn’t pass up this once in a lifetime opportunity.
“I come from an entrepreneurial family, I have always wanted to own something, I just had no idea what I wanted to own.” When it first sold in 2018, Procon was so upset when she found out. Ever since, it has been in the back of her mind, until recently when she heard through the grapevine that it was up for sale again.
Hayley and her mother split the business 50/50 and go into work every day. They even bake the muffins fresh in the shop. “I have only wanted to own my own business, so all of the financial management classes have really helped.”
Procon has been going to the cafe since she was in high school. The full circle experience was a once in a lifetime opportunity she knew she could not pass up.
While she is still a full time Business Management student at Springfield, she zooms into classes at the cafe so she can still be working.
The hours have been extended and in the future, Procon is looking to do some minor renovations and add new items to the menu such as avocado toast.
“We have gotten so much support from Springfield College and I have so many people reaching out congratulating me.” With aesthetically pleasing chalkboards and the coziest upstairs sitting area, the spot is certainly worth checking out.
Procon is trying to keep business local by buying coffee beans from Connecticut and making the muffins in house. Check them out on Instagram @commongrounds413.
