NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Middle Tennessee State University celebrates the grand opening of the Chris Young Cafe on Wednesday.
The Chris Young Cafe will be a learning laboratory for student performers and technicians during the day and a performance venue at night for music, radio broadcasts, comedy and other entertainment. It features a performance stage, LED video display wall and a state-of-the-art audiovisual technology.
Young, who is from Murfreesboro and attended MTSU in 2005, wanted to give back to the university that helped him. In fact, he donated $50,000 to help make it possible.
Young will perform the first song inside venue later today. The grand opening ceremony will also feature the unveiling of a Tennessee Music Pathways marker in Young’s honor and unveiling of a custom large mural featuring Young and a few dozen of his “famous friends.” https://t.co/9Q2lrTVetU

The cafe’s Director Frank Baird says this is going to give students a better hands-on experience.
“The vision is that different students and classes would be able to interact with each other and as there are questions, the advanced student could say, ‘oh yeah I remember it’s this button,’ then the intro students are like, ‘oh what are you doing with those consoles,’ I think it’s a little workshop-lab,” Baird said.
The grand opening ceremony is happening later today. Young will be there to perform the first song on the stage. They will also unveil a Tennessee Music Pathways marker in Young’s honor and a custom, large mural featuring Young and a few dozen of his famous friends.
