JOLIET, IL — When it comes to breakfast, I'm more of a traditionalist. I prefer my eggs scrambled. Include a couple of slices of bacon or a sausage patty, some hashed browns and a cup of coffee, and I'm in heaven. But now that we have the Rosemary Cafe in Joliet at 1730 Essington Road, my entire outlook on breakfast has changed. I'm willing to branch out.
A lot of people have been raving on social media about their wonderful first experience at Rosemary Cafe since it opened on Dec. 21, and I would have to agree. The Rosemary Cafe gives Joliet residents a chance to eat breakfasts we rarely have the chance to eat.
The menu at Rosemary Cafe is something else. There are dozens of options to choose from, but one category in particular stands out: the crepes.
It's loaded with 10 different flavors of sweet crepes. You can find strawberry, banana, berry, Nutella, tres leche, salted caramel cheese cake, chocolate and fruit swirl, banana caramel cream, double chocolate and double de leche.
There are definitely a lot of sweet crepes to choose from, but the crepes that caught my eye are the savory: ham and cheese, chicken, smoked salmon, grilled veggie, spinach, steak, Cuban and the meat lover. Last week, I called ahead and ordered the Meat Lover Crepe for takeout. The Meat Lover Crepe is $14.50, and you get a full meal out of it, believe me.
The Meat Lover Crepe was stuffed with ham, bacon, steak, turkey, chorizo, manchego cheese and bechamel sauce.
I can't ever remember eating a crepe like this before, and I'm sure I've never seen it on a menu in Joliet until now. It lived up to my expectations. It was delicious and quite filling. The Meat Lover Crepe is a welcome addition to Joliet.
In addition to the crepes, Rosemary Cafe has a large assortment of international breakfasts that are gaining in popularity as well.
There's an Italian breakfast, a French breakfast, a Norwegian breakfast, a Portuguese breakfast, a Spanish breakfast and an English breakfast. And for more traditionalists, there's a traditional breakfast featuring two eggs any style, bacon or sausage, breakfast potatoes and toast for $10.50.
Since opening a couple weeks ago, Rosemary Cafe is already up to 25 Google reviews with a ranking of 4.5 out of 5 stars. Rosemary Cafe's Facebook page is already up to 727 Facebook Likes after being open just two full weeks.
There's hasn't been this kind of buzz about a new breakfast and brunch cafe in Joliet in many years, and that's because Rosemary Cafe is in a class of itself.
Rosemary Cafe is open daily from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. for indoor dining as well as takeout orders and curbside orders.
The restaurant phone is 815-782-4094.
