Diners at the Country Rose Café received a surprise dish on Sunday, when their routine meal turned dangerous as a vehicle crashed through the building pinning one patron between the counter and collapsed debris and sending a waitress careening across the restaurant.
Darrell Smebakken, father of the owner of Country Rose Café, was at the scene when the incident occurred, but didn’t see it happen.
“Evidently the patron was parked here (and) backed up, hit the sign, got shook, put her vehicle in drive and put her into the café,” Smebakken said.
The privately owned business suffered approximately $25,000 worth of damage, with smashed windows and a crumbling brick wall.
Smebakken said that the patron, who was trapped between the counter and the debris, was transported to the emergency room and released, with minor injuries.
“... It could have been so bad. I think, all in all, we were very fortunate,” Smebakken said.
Smebakken hopes that the restaurant will reopen after a few weeks, once the wall is repaired and legal matters are sorted out. In a Facebook post, the restaurant posted that it will be undergoing construction over the next two to three weeks.
“I think they could put that wall back up in less than two weeks, but (there’s) all the legalities with the insurance company,” he said.
