MIDDLETON (WKOW) -- Middleton is known as the Good Neighbor City. What is happening at a local business in the city proves that it's more than just a motto.
Longtable Beer Cafe has been known as a fun place to try a new brew and sit down with friends and family since it opened three years ago. For owners Andrea and Matt Van Nest, a sense of community is at the top of their passions as business owners. That's why they they have decided to help feed people in their community who might otherwise go hungry during the pandemic.
Longtable Beer Cafe started a meal distribution program with Middleton Outreach Ministry. The restaurant cooked the meals and added some extras from the ministry's food pantry. The first meals went out this week to 80 families.
"There's a tremendous amount of food insecurity in the community," said Andrea. "And it felt important to, to use the power of the table to bring all the resources together and help address that need."
Community donations have helped to make this a possibility and Longtable is trying to raise more. The restaurant hopes to be able to deliver these meals on a weekly basis.
