GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- The Indians are receiving mixed reviews as to how they’ll do this season.
It’s hard to overlook the loss of Francisco Lindor and Carlos Santana to the offense. Not to mention the arm drain over the last few years which has seen the Indians trade Trevor Bauer, Corey Kluber, Mike Clevinger and Carlos Carrasco.
That does not concern Franmil Reyes. The 6-5, 270-pound designated hitter has high hopes for the Indians this year.
“I feel great, wonderful, just watching my teammates,” said Reyes, who has homers in the last two games. “The effort they’re putting in every day they come here to the field. The hard work they’re putting into practice and going into the game trying to adjust, not trying to do too much.
“Like Jose Ramirez, a couple of days ago he told me every time I hit the ball to right field, I know I’m getting to my (regular-season swing). Cesar (Hernandez) feels great at the plate. I have been asking my teammates ‘How you feel? Are you there already?’ Cesar told me he feels so good. ... I feel great, honestly, about my team.”
Reyes is hitting .333 (10-for-30) with four homers and six RBI in 11 games this spring. Before he left Monday’s Zoom call, he told reporters, “I swear, we’re gonna surprise you. I swear. We have something special for you guys. Trust that.”

They said it: “I’d say I’m more concerned about the walks. Solo homers don’t necessarily kill you. There’s a reason the home runs are coming, because he’s falling behind in counts and and giving hitters a pretty good pitch to hit. I think it kind of goes hand-in-hand,” -- manager Terry Francona on right-hander Triston McKenzie allowing seven homers and 10 walks in 14 1/3 innings.
