Tatte Bakery & Café — a fast-casual restaurant specializing in gourmet Mediterranean foods, breakfast foods, sandwiches and pastries — is set to open at 7276 Wisconsin Ave. in downtown Bethesda on Wednesday.

It will be at the bottom of The Wilson and The Elm retail development.

Tatte’s daytime menu includes sandwiches, salads and bowls, along with tartines such as ham and fried egg with pesto and ricotta cheese on sourdough bread. Another is the North African dish Shakshuka – a mixture of poached eggs in tomato and bell pepper sauce with vegetables and spices.

Most menu items are $10 to $15.

Tatte also has an extensive brunch selections, such as seared halloumi cheese with griddled tomato and egg on a challah roll, meze breakfast (two eggs with cashew pepper spread, sunflower spread, whipped feta cheese and za’tar) and “Greek style” pancakes served with Greek yogurt and pear jam. Brunch items cost $7 to $14.

Additionally, Tatte started serving dinner after 4 p.m. a couple of months ago at its other locations, Bethesda location General Manager Katie Mooney said on Monday during a soft opening event at the restaurant.

The dinner menu, available daily after 4 p.m., features slightly more pricey entrees, such as mushroom risotto ($16), lamb lasagna ($18), salmon with horseradish cream ($20) and braised lamb shank ($30).

Tatte was started in Boston 13 years ago by Israeli pastry chef Tzurit Or, who opened cafés in the Boston area after selling baked goods in her home and at farmers markets.

The company has since expanded into the greater Washington region, adding two cafés in D.C. prior to opening the Bethesda location.

A fourth location in the region is planned for this summer in the Clarendon neighborhood of Arlington, Va., Mooney said.

“We’ve been able to grow and blossom there and being able to bring it to the DMV area I think is huge,” she said.

When customers walk into the Bethesda Tatte, they will immediately see a case of pastries and desserts in the center of the café near the register.

All of Tatte’s products are made to order, Mooney said.

“Every cookie is hand-punched by a Tatte employee,” she said.

Tatte normally has an indoor capacity of 100, Mooney said, but Montgomery County is currently limiting indoor dining to 25%. Mooney said Tatte plans to only allow outdoor dining for the time being. That might change when COVID-19 restrictions are lifted, she said.

Customers can also order on Tatte’s website for pickup or delivery, as well as through the applications of Doordash and Uber Eats, Mooney said.

Tatte will be open daily from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
