PASCO, Wash. — Local law enforcement arrested a man who allegedly stole a car from the parking lot of a cafe after it was left unattended by its owner.
According to a Facebook post by the Pasco Police, officers were called to the scene of Collegium Cafe at 3525 East A Street on Friday, April 30. Officers say that the victim was working on his car in the parking lot of the cafe and left the key inside the vehicle. By lunchtime, the victim realized that his car was missing and called local law enforcement.
Security camera footage showed a man described by local authorities as “a tall, thin suspect” stealing the car just before 10 a.m. Pasco police officers say that the suspect was visiting Collegium Cafe prior to the theft. With a distinctive suspect and a unique car, local law enforcement was on high alert through the afternoon.

Around 3:30 p.m., Detective Ben Boykin of the Street Crimes Unit spotted the car being driven on Road 28 near the Tahitian Inn. Local law enforcement conducted a high-risk stop and came into contact with suspect Jonathan James P. McCarthy, a 25-year-old Kennewick resident.
Pasco police say that a witness from Collegium identified the suspect from his visit to the cafe. Officers identified the suspect and brought him to the Franklin County Jail, where he was booked on an investigative hold for theft of a motor vehicle. The car was subsequently returned to its rightful owner, according to local police.
