Busy Restaurateur Behind B&B Butchers Unveils NoPo, an All-Day Café - Houstonia Magazine

The latest project from Berg Hospitality Group is here. NoPo Café opened Thursday at 1244 N. Post Oak Blvd., #150, in the area just east of Spring Branch.

Benjamin Berg, founder of Berg Hospitality Group, which operates B&B Butchers & Restaurant, B.B. Lemon, B.B. Italia, The Annie Café & Bar, Turner's, and the upcoming Trattoria Sofia in the Heights—is hoping people start calling this neighborhood NoPo. Whether or not that happens, people are moving into the area and will call the café a home away from home.

"I'm excited to create a fresh neighborhood dining experience for a rapidly growing area that is really underserved by restaurants and bars," said Berg in a press release. "[Culinary Director Jose Hernandez] and our culinary team really took their time creating these menus while [General Manager Ruth Messele] visited every Houston famers market and met with several local retailers to handpick each item for the market, and I am proud of the end result."

NoPo Café is going the all-day route, starting with full breakfast, lunch, and dinner ,with a market designed to sell grab-and-go fare, like egg sandwiches, pastries, and Greek yogurt parfaits in the morning and a host of salads, sandwiches, and sides for later in the day.

There's a classic American feel about the menu. Breakfast items include a New York-style egg sandwich with fried eggs on a kaiser roll, avocado toast, a hash skillet, and crème brûlée French toast. For lunch, find a club sandwich. Lunch and dinner have raw oysters, a selection of pizzas—prosciutto with bianchetto sauce and arugula, lump crab with basil pesto and ricotta—and larger entrées, like steak frites featuring a 7-ounce wagyu flat-iron steak and ricotta tortellini with brown butter, hazelnuts, arugula, and sage.

The wine list is full of bottles from Napa Valley and Sonoma, with a few Spanish and Italian offerings sprinkled in. NoPo also serves a few original cocktails including a house spritz and a caffeinated beverage mixing Grey Goose, simple syrup, and espresso.

NoPo's a nice-sized room with 2,600 square feet, keeping 35 dining room seats and a six-seat bar. A 448-square-foot patio has bistro tables. Architect Isaac Preminger designed the space with a French country aesthetic in mind, keeping things simple with white birch floors and chandeliers.

It's open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Friday, and from 3 to 9 p.m. Saturday.
