Tropical Smoothie Cafe opens Monday in a new three-unit strip center at the corner of Frederica Street and Emory Drive.

The center is owned by 4 Cats LLC. Sean Byrne, one of the four partners of 4 Cats, will co-own Tropical Smoothie Cafe. He also co-owns the Tropical Smoothie in Evansville.
Byrne said he thinks it’s a unique restaurant locals will enjoy. He noted the smoothies are made with real fruit, and that the restaurant also has quite the menu beyond smoothies.
“It’s a lot more than smoothies,” he said. “It also has some really wonderful wraps, flatbreads, quesadillas — a pretty healthy menu to go along with the smoothie. I think it’s going to be a big hit in Owensboro.”
Byrne said the restaurant has already hired about 40 people and is looking to add about 15 more employees.
Byrne said there were 5,100 households within one mile of the center, which played a key role in choosing the location.
“This is the heart of the city right here,” he said. “You have a 29,000 traffic count. You have people that need to be serviced. We’re local and this is part of our stomping ground. You can’t beat Frederica Street in the plaza.”
Byrne co-owns both Tropical Smoothie locations with the Riney and Curry families. It’s the families’ sixth business venture together, as they own Donatos Pizza locations in Owensboro and Evansville along with the local Sparkle Brite Car Wash and Cricket Wireless.
