Akron-based Stray Dog Café to take over Bounce Innovation Hub coffee shop, catering business - cleveland.com

AKRON, Ohio – Bounce Innovation Hub has chosen Akron-based Stray Dog Café to run its cafe, coffee shop and catering business.

Stray Dog will open for business in the first-floor cafe beginning Sept. 7. The cafe at Bounce will continue to operate until then from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Stray Dog Café at Bounce will offer a full menu of coffee shop beverages, pastries and made-to-order and grab-and-go lunches, with vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options. The cafe will also offer catering services, its own condiments and merchandise.

“We are so excited about bringing Stray Dog Café to Bounce. It’s an amazing place with an amazing vision for business and for Akron,” Director of Operations Charly Murphy said in a release. “We are delighted to partner with Bounce in support of a mutual love for our city and shared desire to make it even better than it already is.”

Stray Dog has cafes on both ends of Downtown Akron, the Akron-Summit County Public Library and in the AES Building lobby, both on Main Street. The cafe also operates food trucks, hot-dog carts and other food venues throughout the city, including Akron Pickle.

“Stray Dog is exactly the type of locally owned food business and entrepreneur that we were seeking in a new cafe operator,” Bounce CEO Doug Weintraub said in a release. “Charly is a visionary with big goals that align with ours to make Bounce a go-to destination in Akron. We are excited for them to open the doors.”

Original cafe operators Dan and Valerie Remark decided to exit the coffee shop business to focus on their eatery in Barberton, Remarkable Diner. Bounce issued a request for proposals in June, inviting food entrepreneurs, chefs, caterers or established local businesses, or combination of, to submit a proposal.
