Now you can enjoy Mexican food for breakfast, lunch, AND dinner!

We all know that the Cedar Rapids area is home to a seemingly endless number of Mexican restaurants, but now we have one that specializes in breakfast! La Casita Breakfast Café has officially opened at 836 1st Ave NE in the former Riley's Café location.

La Casita Breakfast Café began a "soft opening" back on December 23rd, but as of December 27th, it is open for regular hours. Those hours are 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily. The menu includes both breakfast and lunch items, many of which have a Mexican twist. The breakfast portion of the menu includes various skillets, benedicts, omelettes, and other morning classics, plus a section titled "Taste of Mexico." Items from that section include Brekkie Chimis, Molletes, Huevos Rancheros, Chilaquiles, Breakfast Tacos, and more. There's also an extensive list of different coffee beverages available. La Casita Breakfast Café is owned by the folks behind Mas Margaritas and is one of two new Mexican restaurants opening in Downtown Cedar Rapids. The other is Mamacita’s Taco Pub, which is located right next door at 834 1st Ave NE in the former Moose McDuffy's. You can read more about both restaurants HERE.

It's nice to see Mexican food return to the downtown area! La Cantina closed its downtown location back in early 2021, which only left Gringo's Café & Catering in the Armstrong building on 3rd Ave. Another new Mexican restaurant called Taco Gato is expected to open early this year in the building that formerly housed The Lost Cuban on 3rd Street SE. We can't wait to try them all!
