With a handful of recent no-calls, no-shows, and kitten season right around the corner, Karma Kat Cafe in Mount Pleasant is looking for volunteers.
“With volunteering, it’s just a lot of your basic cleaning,” said Kristen Bully, manager at Karma Kat Cafe. “It’s a lot of work. That’s why, at least, we need 3 to 4 people, plus the person working to get it all done in time.”
Elizabeth Armstrong is a kitten foster and volunteer at Karma Kat Cafe. She said it’s important for the shelter to stay clean.
“It’s also a shelter,” she said. “It’s a place where cats come from all over in different situations, and it needs to be cleaned.”
Although the Karma Kat Cafe is considered a business, all profit made goes back to the animals.
Annelise Hansen is a first-time visitor. She said it’s a great way to get cats adopted.
“We have like a humongous stray issue, especially (when) people neglect the animals,” she said. “I think just bringing them in and giving them a chance to be seen, is just exposure, and I think that’s great.”
Karma Kat Cafe said they fix around 35 cats per month. Right now, they are looking for volunteers to help everyday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., to help with things like sanitizing the cat room and cages, cleaning the litter box, and just making sure the cafe is ready to open each day.
“There’s over 40 cats usually,” said Armstrong. “There’s a lot of litter, everything needs to be sanitized… help is appreciated every time. The cats very much appreciate it, and you’ll have get kitten love.”
