Howdy ATL Biscuit Cafe is opening later this year in the former Grant Park Coffeehouse space across from Zoo Atlanta on Cherokee Avenue, the AJC reports. Owned by Boyd Baker, expect a variety of biscuits, biscuit sandwiches, scones, hand pies, and baked goods, along with soups and salads, served on the menu here. Baker, who previously worked for Waller’s Coffee Shop in Decatur overseeing the food there, also plans to sell breads from local Atlanta bakers at the cafe.
In addition to biscuits, baked goods, and coffee, Baker hopes to eventually serve beer and wine and host live music, poetry readings, and political discussions at Howdy ATL, offering a vibe at the cafe reminiscent of a 1960s coffeehouse.
Grant Park Coffeehouse closed last fall after 11 years on Cherokee Avenue. It relocated to Park Place in downtown Atlanta near Georgia State University. Owner Rahel Tafari told Eater at the time of the closure that she was working to find a new location for the coffee shop in Grant Park, which should be close to the original space on Cherokee. Ms. Icey’s Kitchen and Bar reopens March 17 with a new menu in Decatur
After closing three months ago to revamp the menu and interiors, the popular Southern-Caribbean restaurant known for its buzzy weekend brunches reopens March 17 on Clairmont Road. Expect new dishes here, including red snapper prepared three ways: escovitch-style; roasted; or steamed; curry goat and chicken; jerk steak and jerk pork chops; and ackee and saltfish. A location of college town pizzeria Amici opens March 15 on Spring Street
Amici, a pizzeria found in college towns and on college campuses throughout Georgia and South Carolina, opens in Midtown on March 15 at Spring Street student housing complex the Mark. Open daily at 11 a.m., Amici serves a variety of pizzas, calzones, hot sandwiches, and wings on its menu. The Midtown location features a bar with TVs and a patio. [Official]
New locations of the Daily and Ford Fry’s Little Rey are opening in Buckhead
New locations of coffee shop and cafe the Daily and Ford Fry’s Tex-Mex restaurant Little Rey are opening in a new portion of the Northcreek Office Park complex on Northside Parkway in Buckhead, the Atlanta Business Chronicle reports. Michael Shemtov, who co-owns Charleston-based cafe the Daily with wife Melody, told Eater earlier this year they planned to open a second Atlanta location near Northside Parkway. The Shemtovs just opened their first Atlanta location on Trabert Avenue in January. A third cafe takes over the former Proof Bakeshop space in Inman Park later this year. [ABC/EATL]
