Waldo Community Action Partners announces a new initiative that is building off of last year’s Summer Food Service Program for Children – Community Cafés.
Meals are an Extension of the USDA’s Summer Food Program for children 18 and under and are focused on bringing seniors and children together for fun activities, companionship, and community building.
The Cafe will be held every Thursday from June 23 – August 11, between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., at Burnham Town Hall and Waldo Pierce Library in Frankfort.
Children eat FREE through the Summer Food Program
Seniors eat FREE through grant support from Belfast Senior College
Those not age/income-eligible are welcome to a meal for a suggested $3 donation
Organizers are also looking for volunteers to help make this a success. Volunteers will assist with:
Preparing food the day before events at the Vocational Center on Waldo Ave in Belfast.
Transporting food to event sites.
Handing out food to guests.
Leading activities during the day.
Food preparation will take 3-4 hours and the events will be a 4-5 hour commitment. Anyone helping with food preparation will be asked to complete an online training for safe food preparation, which is about an hour long.
If you are interested in helping with any of the above duties, please contact Lorey Duprey at WCAP at lduprey@waldocap.org or call 207-338-6809.
