Take a deep breath. The San Antonio staple Luther's Cafe is expected to be closed only temporarily, friends.
Rumors have been circulating the 73-year-old cafe is closed permanently after the doors were locked late last week during normal business hours. The problem, luckily, is temporary, according to a statement from Luther's Cafe to MySA.
"We are reopening we're just getting a little bit of bugs worked out," a representative said through a Facebook message. "Thanks for your concern."
Construction in a nearby building caused issues with the cafe's plumbing, forcing them to close. This work, compounded with staffing issues, means it will be a few weeks before doors reopen to the public.
However, Luther's Cafe plans to reopen in time for Halloween.
In the meantime, San Antonians can visit other businesses operated by Luther's Cafe owner Randy Cunniff, such as Sparkey's, Knockout, and Heat Night Club.
Luther's Cafe opened in 1949 and seems to have no plans to say goodbye to San Antonio. Luther's Cafe celebrated 73 years in business in July.
The restaurant was first located on the corner of Locust Street and Main Avenue until 1976, after which it moved to Main and Evergreen. In 2012, Luther's relocated to its current location at 1503 N. Main Avenue.
The restaurants normal business hours are Sunday through Thursday, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Friday and Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 4 a.m.
