DEXTER, MI -- Looking for a family-run restaurant that serves breakfast and lunch? Well, Dexter Riverview Café may be the place to go.

Dexter Riverview Café was opened by Albana and Jimmy Hoxha in 2014. Albana said her love for people, Jimmy’s cooking experience and the couple’s desire to operate their own business was what made them create this café.

“We wanted to open our own business because I am very close with people,” Albana said. " I need to make them happy. So I told my husband we had to open our own business.”

The café serves a variety of breakfast and lunch options that are all homemade and “great quality,” Albana said, adding that some popular dishes are the café's Riverview Skillets, rice pudding and corned beef.

“The corned beef takes a lot of work, but it’s worth it because the customers love it,” she said.

Along with a menu-filled with breakfast options, the Hoxhas have included their very own dishes -- Albana’s Favorite and Jimmy’s Breakfast.

Albana’s dish is actually a meal her husband used to make for her that has three poached eggs topped with basil, pesto, spinach, mozzarella and tomato on either an English muffin or toast and hash browns.

Jimmy’s Breakfast also has three poached eggs but they are on top of an English muffin with spinach, broccoli and Feta cheese sprinkled with olive oil served with hash browns.

Dexter Riverview Café makes everything fresh as customers order, Albana said, adding that her son, Geraldo, is in the kitchen helping Jimmy with orders nearly every day.

While Jimmy and Geraldo are in the kitchen, Albana is in the front of the restaurant greeting and helping customers. Often, the couple’s other son, Julian, and their daughter, Angelina, are helping their mother.

“My family (is) doing a wonderful job and doing it with a love,” she said. “I’ve seen the way they care for the business and for the customers.”

Albana said Dexter reminds her of her hometown in Albania, which is where she and Jimmy are from. She said the couple wants to give back to Dexter by making customers feel “loved” when they eat at their restaurant.

The city has been a warm and inviting place, Albana said, adding and that the support she’s received is something that is “hard to find.” She said the café customers help the Hoxha family continue to bring quality service at Dexter Riverview Café.

“When you love of what you’re doing, everything comes natural,” she said.
