Bread Alone to close Lake Katrine cafe on Sunday - The Daily Freeman

LAKE KATRINE, N.Y. – Bread Alone has decided to close its cafe on 2105 Ulster Ave., the company announced on its Facebook page on Thursday.

“We have made the decision to close our Kingston café to the public and repurpose the space as a cafeteria and break room for the growing Bread Alone team,” the posting said.

Sunday, Jan. 22, will be the last day the café will be open to the public, the posting said.

“Please join us over the next few days in the thanking of our incredible café team and enjoying the space a final time,” the posting said.

“After some light renovations, we look forward to honoring the Bread Alone team, who bakes all the bread, with their new cafeteria and break room,” the posting said.

The company, which started operation in Boiceville in 1983, operates a full bakery at the Lake Katrine site. The cafe in the town of Ulster opened in 2015.

Bread Alone has three other cafes in Boiceville, Woodstock, and Rhinebeck.

In 2012, officials announced that the then-planned bakery in Lake Katrine was getting a $4.6 million loan from the U.S. New York Senator Charles Schumer’s office to move the main operations there.

The Lake Katrine bakery currently supplies bread and other products to larger grocery stores, among other sites. In 2018, Bread Alone first ventured into the solar power field when it completed a 200-kilowatt solar panel installation at the 30,000 square-foot main bakery in Lake Katrine.

In March 2021, the company kicked off its carbon-free and gut-rehab project at the Boiceville bakery, which expanded to 8,000 square feet. Since February, the bakery and cafe at 3962 state Route 28, built in 1983,has only been using renewable energy
