A new tea room thinks its settled the great 'cream tea debate' by straddling two counties. The Rambler's Rest on Somerset's Exmoor Park, offers customers the unique chance to be seated in the county that serves up a scone the way they prefer.
Half the café sits in Devon - where a cream tea will be served cream first. The other part of the café is located in Somerset - where locals prefer a cream tea to be jam first like the traditional (and obviously correct) Cornish method.
Since opening on the Easter weekend the café has been a battleground between customers debating and making cream teas in opposing ways. So they decided to split the room - and serve cream teas depending on which county people sit in.

Cafe owners Jessica, 43, and Antony Chipperfield, 55, say they have finally found a solution to the historic cream/jam first debate. Jessica said: “Everywhere in the country the debate over whether to put the jam or cream on first always comes up.
"Because of that we decided to celebrate the difference and our unique split between the counties, and so now the answer all depends on where you sit in the tea room.

The Grade-II listed County Gate building above the Exmoor beauty spots Malmsmead, Oare and Doone Valley is the highest coastal road tea room in Britain.
