SALINE, MI — Carrigan Café in downtown Saline is officially on the market and open for prospective buyers.

Owners Karen and Jason Carrigan have announced they are selling the business after running it nine years. The couple opened the coffee shop at 101 S. Ann Arbor St. in September 2014 in the city’s former My Favorite Café space.

The business has become known for its coffee, breakfast sandwiches and for being a place where people can connect seven days a week.

The decision to sell comes after the couple’s move to Georgia in December 2020. While Karen has traveled back and forth for the business, she said she’s ready to join her husband full time and focus more on her job as a driver trainer for a shuttle service company.

The business in a 40-seat, 1,888-square-foot café is on the market for $140,000, according to a listing from O’Connor Real Estate.

Karen said she is planning to keep the business open until a new owner takes over. There’s already some interest from prospective buyers, she said.

Karen said she would love if the new owner would keep some of the business the same, including its ties with its Plymouth-based coffee supplier, Coffee Express. She also hopes Carrigan Café can continue to be a place where families and children can enjoy time together.

Karen also said she hopes the next owner can make some changes.

“I hope whomever keeps it as a café can find a couple areas here and there where they can actually improve on it,” she said. “There’s always room for improvement and to do things differently.”

Customers who have walked through Carrigan Café’s doors have all become “friends and family,” Karen said, adding she wants to thank each of them for giving her this opportunity over the years. She also highlighted the relationships she has made with the city, Saline Main Street and surrounding businesses.

“Saline has been a wonderful extended family to me. I love every person who comes through the door,” she said in a statement. “I will come back to visit you — we’ll just meet in another person’s café.”
