A longtime Austin cafe is going to be closing at the end of the year. Pacha Cafe’s last day of service at 2915 Guadalupe Street in the North Campus neighborhood will be on New Year’s Eve, Sunday, December 31.
Co-owners Marjorie and David Boulden announced the shutter in an email newsletter sent over the weekend, and with a notice on the cafe’s door. They explained that “many factors have contributed to this sad situation, some out of our control,” and that “while we wish it weren’t so, necessity has spoken.”
Pacha is known for its comforting daytime food menu, such as an array of pancakes (including that savory-sweet bacon, pear, and scallion one), egg dishes like migas and omelets, sandwiches, salads, coffees, hot chocolates, mimosas, and much more.
Co-founders Julie and Laurent Fouillet opened Pacha on Burnet Road in 2000. They sold the cafe in 2008 to the Bouldens, and added the organic slant to the menu. Then they relocated the cafe from its original Burnet Road home onto Guadalupe Street in 2022 because of the need for a larger space.
Ahead of its last day, Pacha will be closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, Sunday to Monday, December 24 to 25. They’ll also be selling Pacha items like table-tops, decorations, etc. People are encouraged to leave their name, contact information, desired item, and bid with a barista. Items will be available for pickups on Sunday, December 31 from 3 to 4 p.m.
Other Austin restaurants closing on New Year’s Eve include Korean restaurant Seoulju and hotel poolside restaurant Wax Myrtle’s.
