GetGo is looking to open a gas station and cafe on Pittsburgh’s North Side.
The proposed location would be on Western Avenue near the West End Bridge in the city’s Chateau neighborhood.
GetGo, a subsidiary of regional grocery store chain Giant Eagle, declined to discuss additional details, including the project’s cost and timeline.
The outlet, planned for a 2.33-acre site, would have a dozen service stations, 33 parking spots and bicycle parking, according to information provided to the city’s zoning board.
The proposal is slated to appear before the board next week. GetGo is seeking zoning variances for the building’s setback and parking. It will need a special exception in order to be built within the urban neighborhood commercial zoning area, according to documents that will be presented to the board.
The development also will need approval from the city’s Planning Commission.
Plans show a spot where GetGo could install electric vehicle charging stations in the future.
GetGo currently has gas stations in Pittsburgh’s South Side, Lawrenceville, Bloomfield and Squirrel Hill neighborhoods, according to its website.
City Council in September approved a zoning change that could pave the way for another GetGo location in the city’s Homewood West neighborhood. The company has announced plans for a gas station and a 6,400-square-foot GetGo store near the corner of Frankstown and Fifth avenues. It would sell fresh food, deli meats, dairy items, bakery offerings, made-to-order food and alcohol.
GetGo will need approval from the planning commission for that specific development.
