CLEVELAND, Ohio -- One of the only in-person, ticketed classical concerts in Cleveland this summer has been postponed due to coronavirus concerns.
"Blues Cafe 1610," an event planned by Apollo's Fire baroque orchestra, has been pushed to the fall. It was originally slated to take place this weekend at Music Box Supper Club.
The new date is Sunday, Sept. 20, at 12:30 p.m. The location remains the same.
Apollo’s Fire director Jeannette Sorrell said the company chose to postpone as a precautionary response to the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in Ohio and elsewhere.
Music Box Supper Club, she wrote, is doing a "a wonderful job of following health protocols, and they have taken many steps to ensure safety during the pandemic. But we felt it would be wisest to wait till September."
This edition of ”Blues Cafe 1610″ was and remains designed to comply with state health guidelines. On stage in September will be just three performers, and seating capacity at Music Box will be significantly reduced.
The program will last a little over an hour, and there will be no intermission. Guests will be encouraged to remain socially distant at all times and depart quickly after the performance. Other measures may be required in accordance with state guidelines.
The program, drawn from the group's crossover albums, aims to conjure an era long before ours, when the boundaries between musical genres weren't as clear they are today. Vocalist Amanda Powell will join hammered dulcimer specialist Tina Bergmann and Brian Kay on plucked instruments for what's being called a "Renaissance-Folk jam session."
