As Walt Disney World Resort begins its phased reopening, new safety measures and health protocols have been implemented in order to keep both Guests and cast members safe during this unprecedented time.

One of those new protocols includes safety measures and social distancing measures within dining locations. Some were left wondering how exactly would Disney keep Guests and cast members safe in regards to indoor dining on property? Well, I recently had the opportunity to visit one of the most popular dining locations on Disney World grounds — Whispering Canyon Cafe — and am here to tell you exactly what I experienced.

Arriving at Whispering Canyon Cafe
When we first arrived at Whispering Canyon Cafe, there was a sign that read “Dining Reservation Check-In. Scan the QR code below with your mobile device”.
Dining locations across Disney property are encouraging online mobile check in. If you have the My Disney Experience app, you also will receive a notification for when it is time to check in — approximately 15 minutes prior to your reservation time.
Check in is incredibly easy. All you have to do is make sure all of the information on the screen is correct and then you submit your check in. Once your table is ready, you will receive a text message asking you to approach the cast member at the check in desk.
If there are multiple people waiting at the desk, there are social distancing markers to allow Guests to wait in line six feet apart from one another.
Being Seated
As we were brought to our table, tables were seated at a safe social distance from one another. There are signs on the tables in which Guests cannot be seated.
You can see from where we are seated, how far apart the tables are from one another in order for Guests to safely remove their masks and enjoy their meals.
Personally, I loved the social distancing set up. By being more than six feet apart from other tables, the conversations amongst other families didn’t carry so we felt like we were basically the only ones in the restaurant. It made for a wonderful atmosphere and great experience.
The Menu
Whispering Canyon Cafe is using a mobile version of their menu. With your smart device, you scan the QR code which brings you to their online version of the menu. It is extremely easy and convenient.
Whispering Canyon Cafe also offers alcoholic beverages with the breakfast menu so I decided to try a mimosa — And it was delicious!
The Food
As always, the food at Whispering Canyon Cafe exceeded my expectations. I ordered the Pepper Jack ‘Cheese’ Frittata which included Peppers and Onions along with a Spicy Plant-based Sausage and breakfast potato side. I also asked for a Buttermilk-Cheddar Biscuit on the side.
My mom ordered the Seasonal Fresh Fruit Plate which came with Honey-Ginger Greek Yogurt and Granola. She raved about it and said it was light yet filling — the perfect breakfast.

The Ketchup
In case you aren’t familiar, if you were dining at Whispering Canyon Cafe and asked for ketchup, your server would yell “ketchup!” to all the other servers and if any of them have a ketchup bottle, they all bring it to your table. Most of the time Guests would end up with a tower of ketchup!
However, in order to keep safety protocols in place, Disney dining is doing away with plastic reusable bottles to keep germs at a minimum. Our server brought out a small bowl of ketchup.
I also asked for hot sauce in which she brought out two small single use bottles.
Paying the Bill
When it was time to pay the bill, our server brought it out in a paper, single use pamphlet instead of the old bill sleeves. This is also to help keep germs at a minimum and help keep things safe during this time.
Overall Experience
Despite the new safety and health protocols, Whispering Canyon Cafe still offers a unique, fun experience for the whole family. Our server was in character and she made us laugh every single time she approached the table. The food was excellent, as always. And with all of the health protocols in place, we felt extremely safe eating out at a restaurant.
