NORTHAMPTON — The Freckled Fox Cafe is closing its door for good.
“We have spent much of this time reflecting on the business, our family, the community, state of the economy and the headwinds that the pandemic is causing many small businesses, including the Freckled Fox,” the owners wrote in a Sept. 15 statement on the cafe’s Facebook page. “After much deliberation we have made the very difficult decision to permanently close the cafe.”
Kitty and Tom Johndrow opened the cafe on Main Street in Florence in 2017. Kitty Johndrow declined to speak with the Gazette about the cafe’s closure.
“While there will always be a feeling of sadness having to say goodbye to the Freckled Fox Cafe sooner than we had anticipated,” the owners’ statement said. “ … We will also forever feel a great sense of pride in our accomplishments and connections made during our time here.”
The Freckled Fox’s mascot was Fern, a fox with freckles inspired by the family’s rescue dog, Kitty Johndrow said in an interview when the cafe opened.
