LAUREL, Del. – A cafe in Laurel is stepping up to the plate to help students who may not have access to reliable internet or wifi. Earlier this week, Chef Fred’s Cafe announced that they will be offering their internet and dining area free of charge to students. The owner, Frederick Briggeman, tells 47 ABC that he understands that times are tough and he wanted to help his community. He says they’ll have 15 tables that will be available for online schooling, and each table can fit about four to six people per booth. He also says that children must wear facemasks, and kids under the age of 12 cannot be left alone and must have parental supervision.
“Two kids were sitting on the curb in front of Taco Bell outside trying to log onto their Internet and I’m like is this really happening? So whatever I could do, it’s about the kids and their schooling. They really need their schooling,” said Briggeman.
Chef Fred’s Cafe expects to start allowing students to use their wifi and other services by Monday. They will also have a reservation list which will be first come first serve. To place a reservation, you can call Chef Fred’s Cafe at 302-877-8964 – or message them on their Facebook page.
