Eastland Café — a venerable member of the East Side’s community of independently owned food and beverage businesses — will close Saturday, Jan. 23.
With the ceasing of operations at 97 Chapel Ave., the neighborhood restaurant will conclude a run that began in 2006. Previously, Chapel Bistro operated from the space, having opened in the early 2000s.
Yvette Thomas and Guillermo “Willy” Thomas own Eastland Café, which is located in a commercial node some refer to as “Walden.” The two also own Park Café in Sylvan Park on the city’s West Side, as well as Pomodoro in East Nashville and sited a few blocks east of Eastland Café.
Eastland Café is known in part for having once been home to noted chef Hal Holden-Bache and veteran food-and-beverage industry general manager Cara Graham. Located next door to Rosepepper Cantina, the restaurant bills itself as offering a vibe that is “both comfortable and casually elegant.” It is open Tuesdays through Saturdays for dinner only.
The Scene was unable to determine how many Eastland Café employees will be impacted by the closing.
A sign on the Eastland Café door reads as follows:
“Thank you to our employees for your loyalty, support and dedication to making Eastland Café a beloved landmark in East Nashville.”
