CVS will offer COVID-19 vaccinations to eligible individuals at 100 of its pharmacies across California, including three in the Bay Area, starting Feb. 11.
The vaccination rollout is part of an 11-state launch by CVS Health to distribute about 250,000 total doses through the federal government, the company announced Tuesday. About 81,900 doses will go to California.
The White House on Tuesday said the Biden administration will begin providing COVID-19 vaccines to U.S. pharmacies, ramping up vaccinations as potentially more serious virus strains are emerging. About 6,500 pharmacies around the country will receive a total of 1 million vaccine doses, said Jeff Zients, White House coronavirus coordinator. The number of participating pharmacies and the allocation of vaccines are expected to accelerate as drugmakers increase production.
“As more supply becomes available the company will expand to additional states while increasing the number of stores offering vaccinations,” CVS Health said in a news release.
The list of specific stores in the cities where vaccines will be offered will be available on CVS.com as the locations receive shipments and appointments become available, spokesperson Monica Prinzing said Wednesday.
Patients can check for availability and register for an appointment as early as Feb. 9 at CVS.com or through the CVS Pharmacy app, according to the company’s news release. Individuals without online access can contact CVS Customer Service at 1-800-746-7287. CVS said walk-ins will not be vaccinated.
CVS Health hopes to eventually administer 20-25 million shots per month nationwide.
