STRONGSVILLE, Ohio – A homegrown café that serves wine, coffee, cakes, pastry and light lunches is relocating but staying in Strongsville.

Wine Down & Sweets Café, 14785 Pearl Road, is planning to move from a retail plaza south of Ohio 82 to a multitenant building north of 82, into a space formerly occupied by Lemonberry Frozen Yogurt.

The new address is 12927 Pearl. It’s just north of Zverina Lane, across Pearl from Strongsville Middle School. Wine Down will share a site with CQ Printing.

“The new location has an outdoor patio, which is what we wanted with everything going on,” said Wine Down owner Tammy Phillip, referring to the COVID-19 pandemic. “Indoor dining has been very slim.”

Phillip said she hopes to complete the move by the end of March.

Earlier this month, the Strongsville Planning Commission approved a conditional use permit that will allow Wine Down to occupy its new space, which is in a general business district, and have an outdoor patio.

Under municipal code, restaurants can open in a general business district, and operate an outdoor patio, only with special permission from the planning commission.

On her application to the planning commission, Phillip said she opened Wine Down & Sweets about three years ago.

“We’ve established a café where good friends go to share food, wine and desserts,” Phillip said in her application. “We’ve helped hundreds of families celebrate their special events with our cakes.”

Phillip said Wine Down has hosted cookie-decorating parties, murder-mystery dinners, wine tastings and art happenings.

“We frequently partner with other locally owned businesses in the surrounding area to cohost events and support local artists,” Phillip said on the application.

According to its website, Wine Down & Sweets serves espressos, lattes and cappuccinos, fresh paninis, flatbreads, wraps, hummus plates and ahi tuna quinoa salad. It specializes in cakes, cupcakes and pastries and has a wine bar.

Due to COVID-19, Wine Down practices social distancing and asks customers to wear masks.
