It takes a lot to shock people online these days, but a Starbucks employee managed to do just that in a short TikTok. Earlier this month, Aidan Stockin uploaded a video of himself trashing leftover food from the Starbucks where he works. And if you're thinking that leftover food merely consisted of a few chocolate croissants or two cake pops, think again.
In Stockin's TikTok, a giant mound of pastries can be seen in several shopping carts before being trashed at closing. And for those who might have their doubts about the legitimacy of the video, the TikToker tossed an "I WISH i was kidding" into his caption.
The video has since received well over 2 million views and thousands of comments. Many people expressed their outrage at all the food waste. Some hungrily inquired about how they can get their hands on one of the treats before they're tossed.
"Yuuuup. And if you take any or give it away, you’re fired because it’s theft," one user wrote.
"I would legit cash app you right now for those chocolate croissants," another person added.
Given the massive amount of leftover food, there were those who wondered why the Starbucks location ordered so much food in the first place.
"I’m most confused why the pull is so high if it’s all going to trash like this. We always pulled only what we would need," someone pointed out.
Some commenters have even declared that throwing out that much food should be illegal. But on the bright side, one TikToker who seems to work at Starbucks said that in their particular state, they are able to donate leftover food.
"In my state, we were able to donate it. ALL food was donated unless it was too outdated, discolored, or previously opened," they commented.
Another person shared a similar experience, writing, "When I worked at Starbucks we would have a truck come by every night and take food to a food bank or homeless shelter."
