Get ready Penfield, a new eatery is headed to town.
The Busy Bean Café plans to open a second location next month in the Wegmans Plaza at 2157 Penfield Road in Penfield. The spot will be the cafe's first restaurant in Monroe County.
Most recently, casual restaurant Superfly DMC operated at the 2,900-square-foot storefront for about 16 months, but closed in November 2020. Superfly DMC was the successor to Lindburgers, a specialty burger restaurant that had an 18-year run in the space.
Busy Bean Cafe serves homemade meals that are "quick and fast but made fresh-to-order," said co-owner Melissa Sharrow of Webster. Sharrow and her boyfriend Carlos Tase together opened the first Busy Bean Café at 10 E. Main St. in Victor in January of 2020. They had a rough first year, with the pandemic that forced a months-long closure - but the pair persevered and the café ultimately flourished.
The café serves breakfast and lunch; its most popular offering is a breakfast bowl, which includes eggs, cheddar cheese and meat served over home fries, Sharrow said. The menu features a dozen types of panini sandwiches, which are also popular, as is the banana bread French toast. The café also offers salads, soups, wraps, pancakes, breakfast burritos and more.
Sharrow said the eatery offers a full gluten-free menu and also serves several vegan dishes.
Breakfast entrees range from $8.50 to $12.50 and sandwiches start at $6.
Sharrow said she is aiming to open the eatery in mid-November. The restaurant will offer breakfast and lunch daily, but hours have not yet been set.
Busy Bean Café will initially serve the same menu at the Penfield location. They will adjust offerings and hours as they go.
Upon entering the café, patrons will see a large coffee bar where they order food and drinks. Items will be served to diners at tables. Roughly 70 people can sit at tables within the restaurant, There's also space near the coffee bar with eight cozy lounge chairs.
"We are excited to see what the next chapter brings," Sharrow said. "We're not your typical diner, but offer a more relaxed feel - it's laid back and chill. We want people to feel like they are home."
As for the Victor café, there are no plans to close the location and Sharrow said she plans to stay in Victor for many more years.
Although the Victor café has a small, gated play area stocked with book and toys, the Penfield eatery will not have a designated play space, she said.
