From the street, Stoughton’s Wildwood Cafe is unassuming: It’s a simple storefront with black-painted doors and windows and one small sign fluttering in the breeze. Step inside, though, and you’ll discover a cafe filled with flourishes — from the handmade coffered squares in the ceiling to a floral-patterned back wall — that speak to the care and intention that went into Wildwood’s creation.
“We wanted a meeting place for the community,” says Stephanie Baughn, who opened the coffee shop with her husband, Ryan, in May 2018. Of course, coffee had to be part of the equation. Most of the duo’s early dates in Seattle involved coffee — Ryan had also been working in the specialty coffee industry since he was 18. Still, they weren’t sure that the community would embrace their less-is-more ethos.
