JACKSON, MI -- From-scratch cooking and fresh ingredients have helped Anna’s Porch Cafe serve the Jackson community for 22 years.
“Family and friends and a hidden little gem,” is how owner Anna Kusterer describes the restaurant at 401 N. Mechanic St. in Jackson.
Once a place where ladies would go to lunch, Kusterer is seeing a change in customers.
“I’ve noticed a younger clientele coming in,” Kusterer said. “A lot of young people want fresh homemade and locally bought produce. Once a wife brings a man here, we have him hooked.”
The novel coronavirus has had an impact on the business.
“It’s affected it big time,” Kusterer said. “If it wasn’t for people getting orders to go, I don’t know if we would be here.”
One change as a result of the pandemic is that the Porch Cafe now offers breakfast all day long. Other popular items on the menu include quiches, burgers and salads with homemade dressings, Kusterer said.
Chef John Jones describes his style as traditional.
“I like the aspect of being able to come up with different ideas in making up the menu,” Jones said.
