Verbena Cafe at 10639 Meeting St. is closing permanently after just under 10 years in operation.
Owners announced the closure on May 11 on the company's Facebook page and said after nearly 50 years in the restaurant industry they were retiring.
"In the midst of global crisis, we (like small businesses everywhere) are forced to make a very difficult decision," the post read. "It is with heavy hearts and careful consideration that we have decided to permanently close Verbena Cafe."
Laurie Cortino and her son, Michael Cortino, first opened the Norton Commons cafe in September 2010. After Gov. Andy Beshear's restaurant shutdown order in March, Verbena Cafe temporarily closed down. It did not reopen.
"No one said owning a restaurant would be easy — we've certainly had our ups and downs — but we've loved every minute of it," the owners wrote. "Thank you all so much for a life-changing 10 years."
